Kalmar was the city where the three crowns were united in the Klamar Union between Denmark, Sweden and Norway in 1397. The castle was built in the 1100s and the defence tower completed in 1180. The cathedral as built n hte baroque era being started in 1660 as a Lutheran cathedral. It was finished in 1703.
